We started by defining the criteria for rating various CMS systems. We evaluated them based on a set of business, functional and technical requirements. The system we were searching for needed to have a license and pricing model that would be acceptable for our target market. We were also looking for a system with an update release cycle that would stay current with our client’s business needs, but not force them into expensive and frequent upgrades. The system needed to be easy to use, but robust enough to support best practices for Search Engine Optimization and social networking. We preferred that the system work on a Microsoft .NET platform. It also needed to have a modern architecture that could be implemented quickly and efficiently in order to provide a robust technical solution to meet our client’s business needs.
We evaluated more than a dozen platforms, using many in client situations and some in prototypes for pilots. The system we identified, that satisfied our criteria better than any other platform we reviewed, was Kentico.
